When A Chemical Peel Is The Right Choice For You

February 15, 20261 min read

A peel does one thing and it does it honestly: it removes the top layer of your skin so a newer one comes up behind it. Everything else — how deep it goes, how much downtime it costs, how much it changes — is a dial your provider sets after looking at you.

What a peel is actually for

  • Uneven tone and dullness
  • Sun damage and discolouration
  • Fine lines and rough texture
  • Mild acne scarring
  • Congestion and breakout marks

A peel works at the surface, which is both its strength and its ceiling. If the problem is pigment sitting shallow, a peel is the efficient answer. If the problem is skin that has gone slack, no peel is going to reach it and you want a device instead.

Signs it is your treatment

  • Your skin looks tired even when you are not
  • Products have stopped making a visible difference
  • There is discolouration you keep covering
  • Breakout marks outstay the breakout by months

Downtime, told straight

A lunchtime peel is what it sounds like: light flaking for a few days and you go back to work. Go deeper and it peels more visibly and wants a weekend. Deeper peels again are the exception on this whole page — those can need a few weeks of recovery, and you will hear that before you book rather than afterwards. Sun protection is not optional either way. A fresh layer of skin has never met the sun before.
