Understanding The Benefits Of Laser Hair Removal
Shaving is a chore you inherited and never agreed to. Waxing is worse, because first you have to grow it out — in public, on purpose. Laser is the one that ends the loop.
How it actually works
The laser fires light that passes straight through skin with nothing to absorb it. When it reaches the melanin in a hair, that energy stops and turns into heat right at the follicle, damaging its ability to grow anything back. It is also why the treatment wants dark, coarse hair: pale, fine and grey hair gives the light nothing to grab hold of.
Three to seven sessions — and you feel it long before the last one
Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only reaches follicles that are active on the day you are treated. That is why nobody clears in a single visit. You come back every few weeks to catch the next group. Most people reach permanent hair loss somewhere between three and seven sessions, and the better news is what happens in between: hair comes back finer and sparser the whole way through, so you notice it working well before you are finished.
Where people have it done
Face, legs, arms, underarms and the bikini line. Each pulse covers about a quarter-sized area per second, so a small patch is genuinely quick and a full leg simply takes longer — the machine is the same either way.
What to do before you come in
- Stay out of the sun and off the tanning beds beforehand
- Do not wax, pluck or thread — the laser needs the root that waxing pulls out
- Shave the area the day before, not the morning of
